In this eBook original novella, Mary Ann Rivers introduces a soulful and sexy tale of courage, sacrifice, and love.
I will meet you on Wednesdays at noon in Celebration Park. Kissing only.
Carrie West is happy with her life… isn’t she? But when she sees this provocative online ad, the thirty something librarian can’t help but be tempted. After all, the photo of the anonymous poster is far too attractive to ignore. And when Wednesday finally arrives, it brings a first kiss that’s hotter than any she’s ever imagined.
Brian Newburgh is an attorney, but there’s more to his life… that he won’t share with Carrie. Determined to have more than just Wednesdays, Carrie embarks on a quest to learn Brian’s story, certain that he will be worth the cost. But is she ready to gamble her heart on a man who just might be The One… even though she has no idea how their love story will end?
“Story guys are like life highlighters. Your life is all these big blocks of gray text, and then a story guy comes in with a big ol’ paragraph of neon pink so that when you flip back through your life, you can stop and remember all the important and interesting places.”
When I picked this book, I really wasn’t expecting it to be such a good one. It really floored me with its awesomeness. Yes, the first line of the blurb has me hooked, but I really wasn’t sure it would be any good.
Well, I’m really glad to say that it was. And then some. Trust me, this is not a story to pass up and I’m so glad I gave this book a shot. It doesn’t seem like it, but this story combines lightness and real deep emotions. The dynamic and connection between Brian and Carrie is amazing and truly touching.
“I love you. I couldn’t be more of a mess right now, but I can’t believe I haven’t told you because I have, for so long now, and it’s like I don’t have anything else to give you, anyway. Not time. Not my full attention. Not the kind of boyfriend you deserve. But my heart, such as it is, you do have that.”
This book is a beautiful story about love and life and letting people in. This was an amazing read and it is so well written. Mary Ann Rivers with this book proved that she is a great writer, able to make you feel very deeply about her story and characters in the span of a few hundred pages. This book may be short, but it is packed with emotions and meaning. I really didn’t want this book to end.
“That’s just it, Carrie. I’m not going to burden you. You would take it all, I can tell. God, it’s tempting. You’re tempting, and more so than just this,” he says, gesturing his hand around the pergola. “You and your big, clear eyes that make me just want to lie down with you and rest.”
This book gave me the same feelings I have when I read a book by Megan Hart, Charlotte Stein and Cara McKenna. Those are three of my favorite authors and I’m very rarely disappointed when I pick one of their books. I’m missing the words to say what they make me feel (and it’s really frustrating), but those books are full of gentleness and yet, they are so fierce in the things they make you feel. They are little specks of gold, and once in a while, you stumble upon one of them and the story you read really stays with you.
“You were the first thing I had asked for, just for me, in a long, long time.”
Brian (our story guy), is an attorney. One night, Carrie stumble upon an ad he posted on the Metrolink, looking for someone to meet on Wednesday’s only and to kiss for an hour. On a whim, Carrie answers him and decided to bring something new in her very easy, uneventful life.
“My life is cozy, but I’m starting to let myself think I want something wet and aching stabbed through it. I want something substantial. I want to gorge myself. Excess.”
I loved their first meeting and their first kiss. I was never so involved in a kiss as I was with this one. It was so well described, I felt like I was actually feeling it for myself. And boy was it hot! It’s not everyday you read about a kiss and it feels so erotic. You feel the instant connection between Brian and Carrie and you feel how intense this is for them as well.
“I have never had a first kiss like this. Is it that he’s a stranger? So beautiful? If so, I am ruined for anything but beautiful strangers for the rest of my life. He is so hungry seeming, so explicit with his lips and teeth from every angle he tips my head into. I can feel my heart pounding every place…”
But Brian has a lot on his plate and even if for him, those “Wednesday’s only” are a short escape from them and all he allows himself to have, Carrie won’t give up on him and will try, slowly, to get through to him, because she knows that there can be more to these Wednesday’s only. Those short, intimate moments between the two of them are seriously hot, but they never override the story.
“I’m waiting because it’s not enough. What’s on the other side of the waiting is enough.”
I’ll say it again, this book was amazing. This story is beautiful because of its sensitivity. It is full of gentleness and powerful emotions. This story is one that will keep close to my heart for a very long time.
“But I think, maybe, I won’t look back at what you highlighted, because I won’t need to. I want to read all the way to the end with you.”
